Conor O'Donnell
Conor O’Donnell is a young Irish artist currently working in Dublin. Born in 1980, O’Donnell graduated from Crawford College of Art and Design in 2004. O’Donnell’s work signals a keen interest in the landscape and the pressures facing it in the twenty first century. Environmental abuse, frequently a by-product of technological progress threatens the very terrain we have taken for granted for centuries. O’Donnell’s work bears close scrutiny; the passing glance suggests the old trope of romantic landscape; a more focused look dispels such notions. O’Donnell is an artist of passion and commitment, an artist to follow. He has exhibited extensively since 2003 throughout Ireland and has already been commissioned by the ESB, with his work now hanging in their offices in Co.Cork.
Matt Sesow
Matt Sesow is an American artist, born in 1966 in Nebraska. Sesow has been prodigiously successful since he became a full time artist in 1993. As a child he lost a hand when struck by the propeller of a landing airplane, an event which had a powerful impact on both his personal and artistic development. Sesow the Outsider produces works which refuse to pander to conventional ideas of beauty and form, rather forcing us, the viewer to gaze on less palatable realities which he presents in graphic mayhem. Latterly Sesow has turned his acerbic gaze on to US involvement in Iraq leaving the viewer in no doubt as to where his sympathies lie. Nonetheless Sesow leavens his work with a macabre humour which plays on our sensibilities and which acts as a balance to his occasionally grim but always honest vision. He works in oils, acrylics, with crayons and pencil, on paper and on canvas. He has exhibited and continues to exhibit all over the United States of America and his work has been extensively reviewed and critically acclaimed.
Pablo Avendano
Pablo Avendano was born in Spain in 1971. He completed his formal artistic training in the Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels in 2001 and has lived in Belgium since. While Avendano’s paintings prompt reflection on that borderline state between consciousness and dream, they equally never fail to remind the viewer that they are a human construct. Traces of the artist’s hand are always present. Pencil marks on canvas are further evidence of his input, art historical references recall art’s illusions. Avendano has exhibited widely in both Belgium and in his native Spain, having participated in 24 group exhibitions and 9 solo shows since 2002. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, most recently the l’Accueil 2007 – 1st prize Foundation Roi Baudoin. His work has been continuously critically acclaimed since 2003.
Stefan Uzunov
Stefan Uzunov was born in 1977 in Bulgaria where he studied Fine Arts. He has been based in Madrid since 2001 where he has participated in several group exhibitions. For Uzunov who works with oil on canvas, colour and movement are central to his practice. Amidst the swirling reds, yellows, blues and greens his work appears abstract yet always maintaining a link into the concrete form. Uzunov is an accessible artist whose work will brighten up home or office.
Antonio Garcia Calvente
Antonio Garcia Calvente who paints under the name 'Totom' is a Spanish artist based in Madrid where he studied at the school of Applied Arts. Totom is a talented and versatile artist who is also an accomplished ceramicist and engraver. When painting he works in both oils and watercolour placing prime importance on what might be deemed old fashioned values such as form and tone but which in his hands are given a freshness and vivacity. Underlying even his more abstract works lies an appreciation of the human gesture and the importance of light interacting with colour. Totom’s work is big, bold and exciting.
David de Ubaldis
David de Ubaldis was born in 1954 in Madrid. He graduated from the Madrid School of Fine Arts in 1972 and has worked exclusively as an artist since. De Ubaldis’s painting practice could be described as abstract expressionist with a twist. He applies oils to canvas with great vigour, creating an exciting textured landscape. His choice and application of colours gives his work a unique vibrancy and energy. De Ubaldis has been collected in Ireland since 2005 and is also available via two Dublin based Galleries, Blue Leaf in Fairview and Blue Loft in Ranelagh.
